Green Vest
A designer green vest can go with a wide number of
outfits.
I know you may think that this is a pretty strange post, but
since we're talking about men's vests, I wanted to tell
everyone about my very favorite vest.
First of all I got it when I was about six years old, so
needless to say it no longer fits. Nor has it for quite
some time. But believe it or not, I still have
it.
I'm not exactly sure why I've kept it all these years, but I
it doesn't take up a lot of space and it makes me smile
whenever I see it (which is every few years when I'm going
through boxes in my closet).
So there's really no reason to get rid of it, right?
It's a green
vest. Maybe I should be clearer... a bright
green vest. A bright green sequined vest.
With bright silver buttons down the front of it. Not
exactly something you'd find hanging on the rack in
Bloomingdales. This vest was special order. And I
think I wore it once.
This vest was part of a costume that I wore for a dance
recital. Hence the age six and the sequins. And to
top it all off I wore it with a pink bow tie and pair of white
pants with pink piping down the leg.
Who thinks of this stuff? I couldn't make that up if I
tried. I looked like a waiter from the Polo Lounge in the
mind of Tim Burton. Or Liza Minnelli.
I have no idea what the dance was that I did, but I can
remember the outfit perfectly. Of course the fact that we
have several photos (the proof) of me in the said outfit does
make remembering easier.
This green vest could just about be seen from outer
space. The front of it was covered with green sequins
from top to bottom.
Three large silver buttons were sewn down the front (they
didn't actually button), and the back of the vest was a
stretchy green material that was made from God only knows
what. You just popped that sucker on and you were a human
light house.
I kept the pink bow tie that went with the outfit for a
while, but it has gotten lost somehow over the years.
It's a lot harder to lose a bright green vest covered with
sequins. And I'm glad, because it's the little things
that mean the most.
