Mens vests have certainly made a comeback the past few years, but the fact is, mens leather vests never really went out of style, especially for bikers, equestrians, and leather lovers everywhere. 

Most of the time, the purpose of a vest is make a gentleman's outfit a little more formal.  This isn't the case with men's leather vests, since clothing made of leather is never formal.

Usually this means that the leather is of poor quality and they took lots of bad scraps and sewed them together to make an item.  Avoid by all means patchwork leather.

For comfort reasons, you're probably going to want a nice soft cowhide.  Remember, your skin is going to be rubbing against it.  That's why you should also make sure that your vest is lined. 

An unlined leather vest can be scratchy and uncomfortable.  You'd be amazed how much of a difference a nice satin or silk lining can make.  Don't skimp on the small things.

There are also many different styles when it comes to mens leather vests.  There's zip front, button front as well as snap front. 

Usually there are several pockets to hold your neccessaties, since a horse and motorcycles don't have trunks.  So you're going to want to make sure you buy a vest that looks good, but that's also convenient.

Another plus with leather vests for the outdoors man, is that it's very easy to clean.  Rugged AND easy to clean!?  Yep.  The kind of guys that wear leather vests know that they're going to get dirty, so that's probably another very good reason they started wearing leather.
